Get Your Free Fence Estimate
Quick answers on estimates, our warranty, city rules and how a job goes. Everock Fencing builds and repairs fences in Abilene and across Taylor County.
Do you charge for estimates?
No. Estimates are always free, and quoting in person is preferred.
Why do you quote in person?
In-person quoting is the preferred way, because the measurements, the ground and the gate openings are all visible on site.
What should I have ready for an estimate?
Where your property line is, where you want gates and how tall you want the fence.
What changes the price of a fence?
How long and how tall the fence is comes first. Then comes the style and material, followed by the ground, the gates and anything that has to come out.
Can the quote change once the work starts?
We itemize your quote. If a change comes up, we talk it through with you before we act on it.
What happens if something needs fixing after the build?
After we build your fence, any fix goes to the front of the schedule. You’re booked first. If the problem is the installation, we fix it.
Can you repair a fence that needs work?
Yes. We reset leaning posts, swap damaged boards and panels, rehang sagging gates and repair storm damage. See fence repair services.
What if a storm damages part of my fence?
Often the repair is limited to the damaged section, and the rest of the run is left alone.
Do I need a permit for a fence?
The city’s Building Inspections office says a building permit is needed only when a fence is taller than 7 feet. A fence that tall also needs a variance.
How tall can my fence be?
Up to 7 feet along the sides and rear. At the front property line the limit is 2½ feet for solid fences and 4 feet for open styles like chain link. Fence height may taper up to 7 feet at the front building line.
How far from the street does the fence have to sit?
Keep it at least 10 feet from the curb or pavement edge, and off the public right-of-way.
How much can a fence lean before the city cares?
Under Abilene’s nuisance rules, a fence taller than 4 feet is deteriorated once it leans more than 1 foot from vertical at the top. For a fence 4 feet or shorter, the limit is 6 inches. Code Compliance handles fence condition.
Who do I ask about fence placement rules?
Planning & Development Services answers placement questions such as height and setback. Code Compliance answers questions about a fence’s condition.
Who calls before digging?
Your contractor does. Texas811 needs notice at least two working days before digging, holidays not counted, and getting public lines marked is free.
How does a job go?
It starts with a walk of your property, where we measure and you pick the style, height and gate spots. We then match the plan to city rules and request the utility locate. After that we set posts, build, hang gates and clean up. See the process page.
Do you work outside the Abilene city limits?
Yes. We work across Taylor County, including Tye, Merkel, Buffalo Gap and Potosi. The town or county where your lot sits sets the rules there, so we check them before the build.
Which fence is right for me?
It depends on the job. Wood suits privacy, chain link covers ground, vinyl needs the least upkeep, iron suits a front entry and pipe suits working land. The fence type pages go through each one.
